Natural fruits are a great a source of energy containing both fructose and glucose. Bananas contain more glucose than fructose and provide more instant energy, while apples contain more fructose than glucose and provide more prolonged energy. Blueberries have a near-equal amount of glucose and fructose, and provide both instant and prolonged energy. Swimmers would be well served to include these tasty and natural food alternatives prior to practice and when competing.
